About Us!Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a four-year, medical doctorate degree-granting program that integrates conventional medicine with whole-person principles and self-care practices. The School of Medicine will welcome its inaugural class in 2025, pending programmatic and institutional accreditation.
The School of Medicine filed its request for applicant status with Liaison Committee Medical Education in summer 2022. Currently in the design development phase, construction of the 154,000 square-foot building will begin in Spring 2023. What We SeekWe are building a cadre of medical professionals trained in conventional medicine and in Whole Health who can reimagine medical education. Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements:

All six elements will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum.
About The Position
The Assistant Dean for Research Education will oversee all elements of the curriculum related to research education, including activities involving student training in research methods and evidence-based medicine. They will oversee coordination of student research/innovation opportunities, as well as events in the fourth year of training when students present their projects and research findings. They will ensure that every aspect of the curriculum is up to date in terms of the latest literature and supervise the library/information sciences teams.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific To The Position:
Develop Curriculum. Oversee the development and integration of all content tied to Research Education. curriculum design, faculty recruitment, student assessment, and course evaluations for the following:1. Interpretation of the Medical Literature. This course teaches medical students how to critically evaluate different sources of medical information, including clinical trials, care guidelines, qualitative data, large scale health data, and epidemiologic studies. Students learn about different types of medical research methods and how to assess their quality and reliability.2. Whole Health Innovation Projects. Students will begin identifying potential topics for their Whole Health Innovation Projects early in their first year. In subsequent years, they will design their projects, implement them, assess them, and present what they learned to faculty and student colleagues.Teach. Actively engage in student instruction, developing and delivering content using active learning methodologies. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to create, deliver, and pre-record flipped classroom content, and active learning sessions. Facilitate small and large group active learning sessions.Collaborate widely with others in the medical school and the broader medical community, including the Assistant Deans of Foundational Sciences, Health Systems Science, and Clinical Education. Work closely with library faculty and staff.Lead and Supervise. Supervise faculty and administrative staff who are involved with research-related elements of the curriculum.Evaluate Students. Create learning objectives research education and map them to the curriculum. Ensure that students meet objectives in clinical care courses through use of appropriate metrics and assessment methods.Serve. Participate actively in leadership and group membership within the medical school, such as the Curricular Affairs Leadership Team, the Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate. Co-chair the Innovation, Research, and Health Sciences Subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee.Grow Professionally. Participate in professional development programs to enhance leadership, teaching, educational and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities.Other. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
MD, PhD or DO degree
Preferred Education
Additional training or certification in research methods and/or evidence-based medicine preferred
Minimum Work Experiences--- 5+ years of experience with undergraduate or graduate medical education--- If a physician, five or more years of experience in medical practice--- Excellent research background with multiple publications--- Demonstrated experience and expertise in undergraduate and/or postgraduate education, including teaching evidence-based medicine and research methods--- Ability to apply adult learning theory
Preferred Work Experiences and Qualifications--- 10+ years of experience with undergraduate or graduate medical education--- 10+ years of experience in foundational science, clinical, or other types of health care and/or medical care research in health care--- Proven academic accomplishments in research and scholarly activity--- Comfort with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies
