Job Description Job Description SUMMARY The Solid Waste Driver
is primarily responsible for driving and operating a solid waste
vehicle in the collection of households, residential and commercial
trash. The vehicles included in the sanitation fleet include but
are not limited to side-arm trash trucks, rear load dumpster truck,
recycle truck, knuckle boom truck, and roll-off truck. Additional
driving and working responsibilities could be assigned to other
divisions within the Solid Waste Division. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES Operates Solid Waste vehicles and equipment in a
safe and efficient manner. Perform routine inspection and
preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or
needed repairs to the Lead. Ensure the inside of the cab is free of
any clutter or debris. Ensures the truck that he/she is operating
is always in proper working order and reports all deficiencies to
the Solid Waste Superintendent immediately. Performs unskilled
manual labor, as necessary, in a variety of maintenance and
construction projects within the Solid Waste Division. Responsible
for ensuring the vehicle they are operating has received service at
proper mileage. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate
safety and security standards. Assists in the collection of trash,
brush, and other areas, sorting recyclables, answering calls and
routine maintenance and checks on Solid Waste vehicles. Assists
with handling the operations of the transfer station when needed
Performs ground and building maintenance for the transfer station
Other duties may be assigned as needed SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None required. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an

High school degree or GED; twelve to eighteen months related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education
and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret
documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine
reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before
groups of customers or employees of an organization. MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units
of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and
interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common
sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written,
oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving
several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must hold a valid Class B
commercial driver's license (CDL). PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly

employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is
exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat and cold and
wet or humid conditions (no'n-weather related). The incumbent works
in high precarious places, near moving mechanical parts, is at risk
of electrical shock and/or vibration. The incumbent is exposed to
fumes and airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The
noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This job
