in healthcare. About the Role: The Registered Nurse (RN) in the
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) plays a critical role in delivering
specialized nursing care to patients with life-threatening
conditions requiring constant monitoring and intervention. This
position demands a high level of clinical expertise to assess,
plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for
critically ill patients. The RN in the ICU collaborates closely
with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory
therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal
patient outcomes. They are responsible for managing complex medical
equipment, administering medications, and responding swiftly to
emergencies. Ultimately, this role is vital in stabilizing
patients, supporting recovery, and providing compassionate care to
patients and their families during critical times. Minimum
Qualifications: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in
the state of Oklahoma. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced
Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications. Strong knowledge
of ICU protocols, patient monitoring systems, and critical care
pharmacology. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with electronic
health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
Demonstrated leadership or preceptorship experience within an ICU
environment. Advanced training in ventilator management and
hemodynamic monitoring. Responsibilities: Monitor and assess
patients’ vital signs and clinical status continuously to detect
changes and intervene promptly. Administer medications, intravenous
fluids, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and patient
safety. Operate and manage advanced medical equipment such as
ventilators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps. Collaborate with
physicians and healthcare team members to develop and update
individualized care plans. Provide emotional support and education
to patients and their families regarding treatment plans and
prognosis. Document all nursing care, patient responses, and
clinical observations accurately and timely in medical records.
Respond immediately to emergency situations, performing life-saving
interventions as necessary. Maintain strict adherence to infection
control protocols and hospital policies to ensure patient and staff
safety. Skills: The RN in the ICU utilizes critical thinking and
clinical judgment daily to assess rapidly changing patient
conditions and make informed decisions. Strong communication skills
are essential for coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams
and providing clear explanations to patients and families.
Technical proficiency with medical devices and monitoring equipment
ensures accurate data collection and patient safety. Time
management and organizational skills enable the nurse to prioritize
multiple complex tasks efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
Additionally, empathy and emotional resilience support
compassionate care delivery while managing the stresses inherent in
critical care nursing.
