Senior Manager Retail Culinary Innovation Chef

This position will lead a portion of the Retail OR Foodservice Culinary Innovation team in the inspiration and development of Tyson Food's products. The position interacts closely with internal and external customers (internal: sales, marketing, R&D, engineering, and operations) delivering solutions that support a number of Tyson branded and private brands.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

The position is charged with distilling available information into meaningful insights to indicate relevant growth opportunities.

  • Product ideas generated will be prototyped to discuss key attributes, refine, and develop inspiration for our internal and external customers at Tyson.
    • Role output will lead to robust conversation on product forms presented, cooking techniques used, flavor development cues, and why all these items are key to the consumer impact; ability to take feedback and build a better product is key to success. Ability to assist in designing products that hit manufacturing and financial needs.
    • Collaboration skills required including clear communication of key learnings, internal/external partner collaborations, co-creation, and agility in designing products that consumers will like. This role will utilize the traditional aspects of product development work such as: identifying growth opportunities, brainstorming, prototyping, gold standard product design, product presentation, refining, understanding consumer needs, designing using operator efficiency as a guidepost. Beyond this, there are other aspects needed that are represented by four of the "I's" of innovation: Inspiration, Imagination, Intelligence, and Initiative.

      INSPIRATION:

      This individual must have a keen awareness of the food space, including emerging trends in restaurants (especially for Gen Z and Millennials), flavor development, cooking techniques, and other predictive dynamics from the consumer and food landscapes. This innovation leader can harness these elements to define the crucial elements of food design to propel innovation and product description.

      IMAGINATION:

      Strong creativity skills will be the basis of realizing the solutions as ideas and prototypes and fully developed into product concepts. The Chef will bring key flavor development techniques and product forms together to deliver new reasons for consumers to purchase Tyson products.

      INTELLIGENCE:

      Ability to deliver and support ideas with high emotional intelligence, collaborating to create stronger collective ideas, bringing new news to classic product forms and flavors. Drive to continue to grow as a Chef, innovator, and product designer.

      INITIATIVE:

      Constantly seek new ways to inspire internal and external customers with culinary skill rooted in authenticity and with modern application. Create prototypes of new products, continuously optimizing existing samples to respond to new insights and feedback. Collaborate with, and influence a cross functional team while providing food news leadership and business acumen. Study the ecosystem of suppliers to best utilize their existing information and capabilities efficiently.

      REQUIREMENTS:

      Deep passion to design great tasting food products for current and emerging retail and foodservice outlets.
      • Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for working closely with cross functionals and supervising Tyson technicians and Embedded chefs to deliver project goals. The individual will need to be able to inspire, grow, lead, and develop team members.
      • Education : Associate Degree in Culinary Arts preferred, Bachelor's degree a plus.
      • Experience: 5+ years in a food service culinary operations, diverse technique and segment experience preferred along with the ability to translate foodservice quality food to deliver through retail pathways. Experience in retail food product design a bonus.
      • Computer Skills: Requires computer skills with the ability to fully utilize MS Office products; system training is available.
      • Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication/presentation skills required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with cross functional business partners, customers, and consumers.
      • Other Skills: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills, comfort with ambiguity, can pivot thinking quickly to capitalize on new learning and group thought. The individual should also have strong project management skills. An interest in developing Culinology skills (techniques, ingredients, tools) over the years to come to communicate within the customer and Tyson organizations.
      • Role is in Springdale Arkansas with up to 30% travel.
