The Senior Manager of Rail Operations is responsible for timely and efficient movement of Global Tyson products through various rail modes of transportation (hopper, tanker, refrigerated box car, ocean container, intermodal, etc.)

• Responsible for strategic fleet sizing of all company-controlled rail assets.
• Requires contingency management to ensure all Fresh Meat production facilities and freezers have adequate transportation assets to move daily production requirements to allow continued operation.
• Responsibilities include rail car maintenance coordination with outside shops to keep company-controlled cars properly maintained and in compliance with Federal Rail Administration (FRA) safety standards.
• Ensures cross - functional collaboration and alignment on strategic plans necessary to provide Tyson competitive advantage.
• Develop and improve working relationships with internal and external business partners. Plants/Shipping locations, drayage providers, cross-dock and cold storage, procurement, finance, operations, IT, maintenance, etc.)
• Ensures Tyson rail fleet is positioned to maintain efficient plant operations.
• Promotes and supports technological and automation initiatives designed to improve product movement through Global network.
• Support continuous improvement and change management.
• Lead and develop team to support Tyson Global transportation and total company initiatives.
• Ensures cross functional collaboration and alignment on strategic plans necessary to provide Tyson competitive advantage.
  
  JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  
  • This position will be responsible for leading and supervising tactical aspects of both the Rail operations and Bulk Transportation. This will be responsible for the tactical equipment positioning for plants, accurate reporting for multiple fleets, the implementation of the strategic cost savings initiatives (demurrage/detention reduction, private car storage cost reduction, no bill/switch/scale charge reduction, minimize fleet maintenance costs).
  • This position will also be responsible for strategic aspects of bulk commodity trucking, like managing and growing motor carrier base, developing better loading schedules, mitigating freight spend costs, streamlining processes and other duties as assigned.
  • Deliver the financial plan. Position is responsible that all team leaders have clearly defined responsibilities and understand their specific roles to achieve service and financial goals.
  • Ensure risk management and contingency planning related to trends and threats impacting Global transportation and Global BUs
  • Models the Tyson values and culture. Builds strong relationships and trust with internal and external team members and business partners. Creates discipline and focus around developing talent, building talent pipelines and fostering environment that empowers team members.
    
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    
    Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics a plus; or Bachelor's degree and/or 3 plus yrs. of Logistics, Distribution and Transportation experience
    
    Experience: 3 plus years of experience with transportation operations; Preferably within rail operations.
    
    Computer Skills: Versed in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and various supply chain operating systems.
    
    Communication Skills: Mid to Senior level management written, presentation and verbal skills.
    
    Special Skills: Highly analytical position with multiple levels of data compilation required for decision making. Highly motivated to succeed, Self-starter.
    
    Supervisory: 4+ Team Members
    
    Travel: Minimal travel required. Approximately 2-3 domestic trips annually.
